1- Setting Goals and Working With Obstacles

I personally am excited to be starting this venture with all of you. I set my own first two goals the day I created this content- updating my current website frontpage: image update and reducing the number of "specialties" listed. I met that goal within the week. I then shared that updated website widely with colleagues to get over my anxiety about "putting myself out there". I’ve since completely revamped my website (within 3 months), but this was how I started- with a small step, something I was committed to completing within the week, with an added element of courage and personal growth and exposure.

I am envisioning a few different ways for us to share with each other what specific tasks we're taking on-- to help with building community and accountability. There are three levels of sharing, accountability, and inspiration that we can use:

  1. Your personal planning and organizing- see the Template* link below and resources
  2. Accountability buddy - group of 2 or 3, for increased accountability and support
  3. Group accountability list / board - for inspiration as well as accountability

The following tools are based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy concepts.

  • Personal Template for Identifying and Tracking Action Items and Barriers
  • Worksheet for setting SMART goals related to values plus identifying and working with obstacles (inner and outer)
  • Read this chapter excerpt (related to using the template)

I challenge you to start right now, right where you are. You'll find a few suggestions at the top of the Personal Template in case you're not sure where to start.
